Having routine exams (at least once a year) allows us to detect any issues or diseases early on and allow for better treatment and/or management. During these exams, we like to ensure your pet is up to date on vaccines to help protect them against illness and disease as much as possible. Discussing deworming and flea/tick prevention is also an important part of these visits.

Routine Surgical Procedures

 
We offer routine spay and neuter surgery for (but not limited to) dogs, cats, and rabbits. These routine surgeries are highly recommended as they prevent unwanted pregnancies but also to decrease and eliminate certain diseases later in life.
 

Soft Tissue Surgery

 
Besides routine surgery, we offer wide range of soft tissue surgeries such as lump removals and biopsies, wound repair, laceration repair, abscess repair, foreign body, removal of skin and certain eyelid problems.

Direct Dental X-Ray

 
Dental radiographs are an important part of ensuring good oral health. While an animal is under anesthesia this allows us to assess the part of the tooth that is under the gum to ensure that the teeth that look healthy truly are healthy and do not have any underlying disease.

Pet Nutrition

 
Diet is a very important part of your pet’s health. We have a variety of high-quality diets for all your pet’s needs. Our staff is more than willing to consult you on any dietary questions and find the best diet for your furry family members.

Full Body Direct Digital X-ray

 
Having direct digital radiography means that we get good quality radiographs faster. Radiographs are a great diagnostic tool that is not invasive to the animal. Sending the radiographs to a radiologist for a second opinion is also available depending on the case.

Ultrasound

 
Ultrasound is a great diagnostic tool that is non-invasive. It helps us assess internal organs/structures as well as to diagnose pregnancy in a variety of species. The clinic has a new in-clinic ultrasound as well as a mobile ultrasound.

Large Animal Radiology

 
We are equipped with mobile digital radiology. This means we are able to perform radiographs and assess the images on farm allowing for prompt diagnosis and treatment plans. In large animals, radiology is typically used in the diagnosis of lameness, prior to joint injections and as part of a pre-purchase examination.

PennHIP

 
PennHIP stands for the University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program. It is a radiograph technique using multiple views to assess quality of canine hips as well as giving a quantitative measurement of canine hip joint laxity, a hallmark of hip dysplasia. It can be performed as young as 16 weeks (although we recommend waiting until 6 months) and allows breeders to select breeding dogs that are less likely to produce puppies with hip DJD or dysplasia. The radiographs are taken under sedation by a trained and certified veterinarian and then sent to Antech Imaging Services (AIS) to be evaluated.

OFA

 
OFA stands for the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals and it is a database that aims to reduce the incidence of many genetic diseases (hips, elbows, eyes, teeth, heart, and so much more). It is a great tool for veterinarians, breeders, and prospective owners. They offer recommendations for health testing based on breed and what is the most common genetic issues in that breed. Breeders can check the database to check health status of prospective breeding mates to ensure they are making the best potential matches to minimize or eliminate genetic issues in their progeny.

Dr. Hannah Malone

Veterinarian, Owner

Dr. Malone attended Mount Allison University where she received a bachelor’s degree in animal biology. She graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2014. After graduation, Hannah moved to Alberta and worked at a small animal practice before becoming the lead veterinarian at the Wood Buffalo Humane Society. In 2019 she moved back to the island to join the Montague Veterinary Clinic family. In 2020, she and her husband Scott Malone became the proud new owners of Montague and Souris Veterinary Clinics. She is passionate about preventative medicine and client education. Hannah is a member of the PEIVMA and the CVMA.

Hannah grew up in Nova Scotia before moving to PEI for school where she fell in love with the island. She lives in Montague with her husband Scott, and sons Carter and Thomas.

Scott Malone

Manager, Owner

Scott Malone graduated with a diplomat in Engineering at UPEI in 2008. He then relocated to Alberta to work at an Engineering Consulting firm and eventually moved up into a management position. Business and management have always been a passion of Scott’s early on. He was born and raised in PEI and in 2019 moved back home to become an office manager at the Montague Veterinary Clinic. In 2020, he and his wife, Dr. Hannah Malone became the proud new owners of Montague and Souris Veterinary Clinics.

Scott lives in Montague with his wife Hannah, and sons Carter and Thomas. He is a proud member of the Montague Volunteer Fire Department.

Dr. Edward MacAulay

Veterinarian

Dr. MacAulay graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1983. Ed spent his early years working as a swine research and embryo transfer technician. He returned to school and graduated from Atlantic Veterinary College in 1991. He entered practice at Montague Veterinary Clinic and remained to become an owner until January 2020. His practice has always been as a small and large animal veterinarian. Dr. MacAulay has a special interest in bovine, equine, canine and feline reproduction, medicine, and surgery. Aquaculture, small ruminants and exotics have also been a part of everyday practice. He is part of the PEIVMA, CVMA, CETA and ABPA.

Ed was born and raised in Souris and currently shares his home with his wife Eileen, dog Darla and cat Riley. They have four children, Daniel, Ryan, Marina and Melissa.

Dr. Rose Mary Garrett

Veterinarian

Dr. Garrett graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1998. Rose Mary has a specialty in acupuncture and completed acupuncture training at the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in San Diego. She worked at Abegweit Animal Hospital from 1999-2016 and has been at Montague Veterinary Clinic since 2013. Rose Mary was the Agriculture Education Coordinator at the PEI Agriculture Sector Council from 1999-2012. She is a member of the PEIVMA, CVMA, IVAS, AAVSB and a PEICA board member.

Rose Mary was born and raised in Kings County. Her, her husband Billy and their five children Daniel, Michael, Gabrielle, Harrison and Julianna enjoy their small farm where they raise Herefords, sheep and Holland Lops.

Dr. Helen Fraser

Veterinarian

Dr. Fraser graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2016 after completing her BSc in Biology at UPEI. Helen was born and raised on her family’s dairy farm, Frahill Holsteins, in Belnan Nova Scotia but quickly fell in love with the island when she was completing her education. She worked at New Brunswick Provincial Veterinary Service in Moncton NB from 2016–2020. Helen has a special interest in dairy production medicine and is a part of the CVMA, AABP, CABV and APBA. Helen and her husband Jordan Stetson live in Alexandra.

Dr. Erin Jeffrey

Veterinarian

Dr. Jeffrey attended St. Mary’s University in Halifax studying French and Business. In 2022 she graduated and travelled to Korea and Mexico where she taught English as a second language. Her love of animals lead her to pursue studies at the AVC where she graduated in 2015. Erin spent some time at Summerside Animal Hospital and Brudenell Animal Hospital before joining the Montague Vet Clinic team in early 2021. Her special interests are surgery and dentistry. She has been a member of the PEIVMA and CVMA since 2016.

Erin was born and raised in PEI and lives in Stratford with her fiancé Ryan, their son Joey, and her three step children Noah, Reeve and Charley. They have two English bulldogs, Gus and Copper, a Leonberger named Zion, and two cats Mew and Meow.

Dr. Rebecca Lynn Brimacomb

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Brimacombe graduated from the AVC in 2023. She grew up moving around a lot as a military kid but has happily called PEI her home since moving here in 2016. She has a special interest in dermatology and internal medicine. Rebecca Lynn joined the Montague Vet Clinic family after graduation in 2023.

Rebecca Lynn shares her home with her husband Jeremy and their cat Minnie May.

Michelle Green

Registered Veterinary Technician

Michelle graduated from the Animal Health Technology Program from the Nova Scotia Agriculture College in 2007. After graduation Michelle worked at Amherst Veterinary Hospital in Nova Scotia and Westmoreland Veterinary Hospital in New Brunswick. From there she moved back to the island and worked at the Atlantic Veterinary College until 2014 before joining our team at both Montague Veterinary Clinic and Souris Veterinary Clinic. She has been a member of the EVTA and RVTTC since 2007. Michelle has a special interest in nutritional consultations and theriogenology.

Michelle was born and raised and resides in Kings County with her husband Chris, her two sons Alec and Owen as well her Australian Shepard JuJube, Tabby cat Lynxi, three miniature horses Molly, Bosco and Breyer, and goat Simone.

Krystina MacInnis

Veterinary Technician

Krystina graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at the Miramichi Career College in New Brunswick in 2007.

Krystina worked at Brudenell Animal Hospital and the Atlantic Veterinary College before joining our team at Montague Veterinary Clinic in 2013. She has a special interest in surgery, critical cases and ICU.

Krystina was born and raised in Vernon River and shares her home with her husband Logan, her three children Kolten, Brooklyn, David and their cat Claymore.

Molly Stewart

Veterinary Technician

Molly is a graduate of the Veterinary Technician Program at Dalhousie Agricultural College. Molly has been with us since October 2020 when she joined us for her on the job training. After completing her OJT she joined the Montague Vet Clinic team full time in May 2021. Molly has a special interest in clinical pathology, radiology, and large animal medicine.

Molly was born and raised in Vernon River and currently shares her home in Glenwilliam with her boyfriend Jacob and their two cats Binx and Rocket.

Christine Handrahan

Groomer

Christine has been a certified Pet Groomer since 2006 and has been part of the Montague Veterinary clinic family since 2007. She has a special interest in pet hygiene and nutrition. Christine lives in Kings County and shares her home with her husband Mike, two children Mickey and Emma Kate, their dog Gus and hamster Lou.

Jocelyn Compton

Receptionist

Jocelyn has over 20 years of retail experience and enjoys interacting with clients. She has a special interest in nutrition and animal welfare. Jocelyn was born and raised in Montague where her and her husband Jerry live with their six children, Morgan, Cody, Koltan, Jaxson, Abbie and Alyssa. They share their home with three Shih Tzu’s, Tanzy, Toby and Teka.

Marisa Hoskins

Receptionist

Marisa has over 10 years of customer service experience and loves working with animals. She was born and raised in Montague where she currently lives with her daughter Aslyn and two cats Dipper and Ollie.

Genna Logozzo

Veterinary Assistant

Genna is originally from Ontario. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology at the University of Guelph. She hopes to pursue a career in veterinary medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College. She has a special interest in orthopedic surgeries in both small and large animals. She is also interested in large animal medicine, and the role livestock and farmers have in communities and food systems.

Genna shares her home with her two cats (Carlos and Barb), two bunnies (Ginger and JRoc), and a black lab (Riley). Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, fishing, gardening, reading, and shooting film photography.

Dr. Jessie MacQuarrie

Veterinarian

Dr. MacQuarrie is originally from Amherst, Nova Scotia. She did her undergraduate degree at the Nova Scotia Agriculture College and graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2016. She worked as a large animal veterinarian for the Provincial Vet Service in New Brunswick and has done large animal locum work across the Maritimes. She enjoys both food animal and equine work. Dr. MacQuarrie’s special interests include dairy production medicine and equine preventative medicine. She is a member of the PEIVMA, CVMA, ABPA and AABP.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. MacQuarrie can be found with her husband, Jeff, on the family dairy farm where they milk 100 Holsteins in a freestall robot barn. She is the proud mom to toddler twins, Margaret and Lachlan. She also has a border collie named Casey and an Appaloosa gelding named Milo. In her spare time, she enjoys showing and riding her horse, camping with family and soap making.

Kelly Campbell

Veterinary Assistant

Kelly hails from Milton, Ontario, but has strong family connections to PEI. She recently gradated from UPEI with her Bachelor of Science and is interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. She loves all animals and cannot decide if she prefers large animals or small animals!

When she is not at the clinic, Kelly can be found at the hockey rink or doing something outdoors. Kelly is also a twin!

Kimberley Ferguson

Veterinary Assistant

Kim is originally from Toronto and attended the University of Guelph. She moved to PEI with her husband, Ryan; daughter, Kailynn and their three dogs, Penny, Lucy and Axel. Since coming to PEI, rescue cat, Rosie, was also added to the family.

Kim enjoys participating in surgery days and has special interest in uncommon, non-typical cases.

Lexie McKinnon

Veterinary Technician

Lexie spent two summers with us as a student before joining our team as a veterinary technician when she graduated this summer. She hails from Souris where she has three dogs, Kermit, Dexter and Lola. Lexie can be found in both the Montague and Souris clinics. She enjoys being a vet tech because it means turning her love for animals into a career that actually makes an impact!

Dr. Meghan Murphy

Veterinarian, Radiologist

Dr. Megan Murphy is originally from Newfoundland. She currently resides in eastern PEI. She is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Megan completed a 4 year Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Residency at the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 2019. Prior to starting this program in 2015, Megan spent 4 years working as a small animal practitioner in Nova Scotia and 1 year in Rotorua, New Zealand. She graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College on Prince Edward Island in 2010. Megan worked as an assistant professor in Diagnostic Imaging at the Atlantic Veterinary College from 2019-2020 and continues to provide locum coverage. Megan has been working in teleradiology since 2020 and currently provides teleradiology services for Vet’s Choice Radiology. Megan has a passion for teaching and has been working as a sessional/locum with the University of Calgary and University of Montreal for the past 3 years. Outside of work, Megan enjoys travelling, skiing, horseback riding, hiking and spending time with her husband, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 5 hens and 3 horses. Megan is excited to offer referral small animal ultrasound services on Prince Edward Island at the Montague Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Tasha Clark

Veterinarian

Dr. Tasha Clark is originally from Nova Scotia and graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2008. She spent 13 years practicing in Alberta and Saskatchewan before her island-born husband convinced her to return to the Maritimes. During her time away, she worked for three years in a cat-only clinic and maintains both her Cat Friendly designation and FelineVMA membership. She also developed a strong passion for volunteering with remote spay/neuter programs.

When she isn’t caring for patients at Montague Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Tasha donates her time to veterinary outreach. She regularly travels to Northern communities with Veterinarians Without Borders and has accompanied DVM students on the Chinook Project. She also supports the PEIVMA, serving as both president and animal welfare liaison.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Tasha enjoys home renovation projects, gardening, and caring for her own small menagerie of cats, chickens, and bees.

Dental Cleaning & Extractions

 
Oral health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health, therefore routine cleanings are recommended. We have an ultrasonic dental machine that allows us to clean teeth as well as extract any diseased teeth. February is dental health month every year and to celebrate we offer a discount on dental work.

Dr. Katherine Mitchell

Veterinarian

Dr. Mitchell graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2017. She has her Bachelor of Science degree in animal science and animal welfare. Katherine worked at a mixed animal practice in Pugwash Nova Scotia before joining the Montague Veterinary Clinic family in 2018. Katherine grew up on a farm in Village Green where she developed a passion for large animal medicine. She has a special interest in bovine medicine, dentistry and consulting clients on oral health. Katherine is a member of the PEIVMA, CVMA and ABPA.

When she isn’t in the barn, she can be found with her retired AVC Beagle Coco, her Husky Aspen and her cats Felix, Eva, Sparkles, Bailey, Miss Kitty and Goldie.

Caitlyn Gray

Office Manager

Caitlyn is originally from rural Nova Scotia. She moved to PEI in 2014 to complete her Bachelor of Science Honours in Biology, graduating in 2018. Caitlyn enjoys a fast-paced environment and has experience working in both general practice and urgent care settings. After working hands on as a veterinary assistant, she took the leap to explore the management side!

When she’s not at the clinic, Caitlyn can be found reading, hiking, enjoying a good game of Catan and trying to keep up with her crazy cats, Paisley and Bodhi.
